Members of the Latina/o Studies Association converged in Pasadena to kick of the new organization’s biennial conference starting on July 7. The event, which will conclude on July 9, draws together over 120 individual sessions including traditional panels, workshops, and roundtables with over 400 active participants. The conference will draw scholars, artists, activists, and community members into discussions on the most pressing issues facing Latina/os today and in the past. There will also be receptions, special events, plenary sessions, and a business meeting. The Latina/o Studies Association meeting’s schedule can be found here.
The Latina/o Studies Association released the preliminary 2016 conference program for Deliberating Latina/o Studies: Promiscuity, (In)civility, and (Un)Disciplinarity. Click here to see the tentative schedule for sessions running July 7-9 in Pasadena, California. There will be 120 sessions, four plenaries with a limited amount of complimentary lunches, a Presidential address followed by a reception with two complimentary drinks, a business meeting, a book exhibit hall, and a closing cash-bar reception with live music. All the major fields are represented: from art to education, from performance studies to political science. And presenters have come from all across the country with all the various national-origin Latina/o groups well-represented.
